UNIONDALE, NEW YORK (JUNE 12, 2024) —The Lawrence Road Middle School (LRMS) music department and Uniondale High School Select Strings Orchestra recently celebrated the remarkable success of its student-musicians at the 2024 Music in the Parks Festival—recently held in Allentown, PA and Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ. Competing against regional schools, LRMS’s 7th and 8th Grade Band, Marching Band, Spirit Squad, Advanced Chorus, and Orchestra, and Uniondale High School’s Select Strings Orchestra all delivered stellar performances, winning First Place in their respective categories and achieving ratings of Excellent and Superior.

“Our scholars continue to blow me away,” said Kelvin Jenkins, Director of Fine and Performing Arts at Uniondale School District. “The Lawrence Road music department once again has represented our District with superiority in the arts. They should be incredibly proud of themselves.”

The LRMS Orchestra received First Place with an Excellent rating, while the Symphonic Band, Marching Band, and Advanced Choir each earned First Place with Superior ratings. Additionally, the LRMS Advanced Chorus, under the direction of Sharon Mosely, was honored with the Overall Choral Award. An 8th-grade choral student Marisela Flores received a special soloist award, showcasing her exceptional talent. The Uniondale High School’s Select Strings Orchestra scored a Superior Rating at their Music in the Parks Festival in New Jersey.

“It was an incredible experience for all of our music students,” said Mark Delloso, Band Director at Lawrence Road Middle School. “The judges were very impressed by all our performances, and we are grateful to have had this opportunity. We are proud to represent LRMS and Uniondale with such excellence.”

The Music in the Parks Festival provided a platform for Uniondale scholars to showcase their musical talents and dedication. The success at this festival is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the scholars, the guidance of their instructors, and the support of the community.
